Buying Up Cottages Which Are Being Sold In Vacation Destinations Is Often A Good Idea It seems that all around us things are changing at an awfully rapid rate. The main contributing factor to all of the change appears to be the rise in the number of individuals who live in the United States. With the increase in numbers in the population, the cities are spreading out farther from the core of the city. As the metro areas grow, increasingly more of the population expands into the agrarian areas. Soon development follows the population and agrarian areas turn in to small towns. Increasingly less land is being used for farming; instead it is being developed into housing. A couple of years ago my husband and I saw that wealthy people were purchasing up lots on lakes. They would find cottages for sale along the lakes area and would tear down the cottage and replace it with a massive brand-new structure. We noticed numerous smaller lakes which we liked fishing on were abruptly surrounded by gigantic homes. One lake in particular we noticed this happening on. The large homes took away the north woods atmosphere from the lake. My husband and I had talked about finding cottages on the market which we could update and have as a get away. We determined that the way properties were selling we had better make our move for cottages available while there were still some available. You see, years before we had gone through a similar scenario in the shore city of Santa Barbara. For many years, we vacationed there and stayed in Santa Barbara hotels. Well, seeking to rent a cottage turned in to wanting to buy, however, we hesitated too long and the market took off, with prices rising outside of our range. We promised never to make the exact same mistake again. We determined one Saturday afternoon to go for a drive around two lakes that we have always enjoyed. One of the lakes is quite large and the other was smaller, but there is a channel which goes from this small lake into a bigger lake. A great portion of this lake and the outlying area were in a national park. We had been cross country skiing in the state park during the winter's months and we had noticed that there were numerous privately owned cabins next to the state land. We talked about how private the area was. We went back to the place to see if anything was available to buy. We turned down one little road that we had never been on before. The road led to what had been a little resort. There were signs listing cottages for sale. The resort had been shut for quite a few years. The majority of the buildings needed to be repaired. Two of the cottages on the market had been modernized within the past six to seven years. The cottages were close to the edge of the lake and were surrounded by pine trees. It was an awfully pretty setting, but we were worried about who would perform the upkeep on the road when it snowed. We are still looking at cottages available. I am aware that it is only a matter of time before we find the ideal place for us.
