A Young Woman Quits Drinking, Suffers Through Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Makes Up Her Mind To Get Alcohol Therapy
Kayla is a twenty-eight-year-old call center manager who has been drinking quite heavily since she and her live-in boyfriend severed their relationship. In point of fact, for the past eleven months she has been drinking almost a bottle of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking a number cocktails throughout the day. In short Kayla has been drinking so hazardously and abusively that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to stop drinking.
After feeling unhappy because she was starting to disregard her health, Kayla finally told herself that she's had enough, that it's time to stop feeling sorry for herself, that it's time to quit the excessive and hazardous drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the following Saturday morning at 10:30 AM, she decided to quit drinking completely and suddenly without planning or preparation.
When she called her best buddy and told her that she had quit drinking and that after a couple of hours she suddenly began having flu-like symptoms, Stacy, her best friend, told Kayla to call her physician and go over what was transpiring.
Her doctor told her that she may be experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a friend or family member take her to the emergency room as soon as humanly possible. Apparently her physician had called ahead and informed the emergency room staff to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by a nurse and a paramedic who without hesitation told her to sit down in the wheelchair they had with them.
An emergency room healthcare professional gave her some medications to lessen her flu-like symptoms and also administered some medications to help eliminate the alcohol that was still in her circulatory system. After a few hours, Kayla was transferred from the ER and transported to the recovery room.
After she was in recovery for about two-and-a-half hours, Doctor Fox, an alcoholism and alcohol abuse specialist, came to visit her. He took his time and explained in laymen's language that Kayla had suffered through alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she stopped drinking because she had become an alcoholic.
He then explained that with repeated and excessive drinking, the individual's brain over time gets acclimated to the alcohol so that it can function in a "normal" way. When the individual then suddenly stops drinking alcohol, it can be stressed, the brain takes action by eliciting alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Moreover, her physician also explained in a clear fashion the various alcoholism symptoms that an alcohol dependent person regularly goes through as the disease gets progressively worse as time goes by.
Fortunately for Kayla, it was established that she was in the earliest stage of alcoholism and, as a result, she got a good prognosis for a full recovery if she will get the alcohol addiction therapy she needs.
Kayla told the physician that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to restore her health and her life. She also mentioned that she has an excellent hospitalization insurance plan that will almost certainly pay for most, if not all, of the treatment costs. It was clear to see that Kayla was quite grateful about her positive prognosis and felt free from anxiety knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol rehab she requires so that she can start on the road to recovery.
